Bet-David‘s Valuetainment VS GaryVee’s Tea

Youtube is flooded with entrepreneurial inspiration these days. With so many videos on mindset and common habits, it is difficult to wade through all of the hot air.

I’ve vetted Patrick Bet-David’s Valuetainment with Gary Vaynerchuk’s Tea with GaryVee. They both provide similar types of content with a different voice and platform.

GaryVee’s conversational style appeals to east coast vibes and sneaker Joe’s hoping to break through the noise.

He talks marketing. He talks big game. Everyone loves the flashing lights.

GaryVee’s game is all about producing content. He pushes a tall order for most businesses in 2021 in stretching marketing budgets to allow for content output. He recommends businesses and entrepreneurs alike to publish 5 pieces of content on 7–10 platforms daily. The numbers change sometimes.

Valuetainment

Bet-David’s Valuetainment presents hard teeth against these topics. His approach doesn’t speak to rising stars in every video. Instead the rhethorical focus provides value through interviews (conversation, perspective, and questions.) I happen to love the quick whip style of his videos. He cuts straight to the point, talkative at times, and gets to the heart of an issue.

The viewer doesn’t have to rely on Bet-David’s experience to understand the scope of an issue discussed.

He opens it up for conversation. “How would you solve the problem? How would you solve the problem of people experiencing homelessness in California?”

Questions lead to insight and insight leads to problem solving.

Tea with GaryVee

GaryVee’s channel provides a fresh perspective for big business. Many large scale businesses hold back from posting to social media or developing content. They get caught up in the idea and content building process. This holes them back from growth in a world where viewers attention can only be held for 7 seconds. His advice to post frequently and stop worrying about how the content looks is valid.

These two approaches show interesting takes on success. They both have gained prospective audiences of over 2 million. Bet-David’s perspective shows success through being informed, studying, and reacting to a controversial world. Whereas, GaryVee sets himself up as an authority who has information to dispense to the audience. I personally dislike this style of mentorship. His videos also get repetitive after the first few ones. After a while you start wondering if there is more advice for the viewer other than to spam content all over the internet. Like I said above there is a lot of value in posting more frequently and staying relevant. His concern is more about relevancy.

Whether you prefer one approach or another, both channels provide value worth watching. Bet-David informs the viewer more and inspires critical thinking about mindset and culture. GaryVee’s focuses on entrepreneurial character and mindset for startups. I think GaryVee is definitely sincere in wanting to help people, but I get caught up in the authoritarian approach. I also wonder if the way he presents entrepreneurship will encourage some people to pursue it who maybe shouldn’t. In effect, the aggrandizement could might make people pursue the challenge rather than the identity or affirmation. In the long term, I think Valuetainment provides the most “value.”

I wrote this article because I like both channels. It’s a great study for anyone who is interested in building an audience to think about how they would like to be seen by their competition, and how their audience perceives the value they bring.

When I’m not writing about social media topics, I‘m blogging over at the last pigment here and here.
